I started the Accutane 3 days ago. The first day, I experienced a headache all day. This has continued. It's not a big deal though, it is bearable. Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night to my eye burning and tearing up. It felt like it was oozing and how it feels when you get pink eye. I was able to get it to stop burning as much and it wasn't oozing when I checked it. I woke up without pink eye and it has felt fine all day. Weird.
I've also had nausea all 3 days. Not anything terrible, just feels like I'm vaguely nauseous all of the time.
By the end of the week, my eyes are dry enough to require eye drops but only once or twice a day. My lips also need chapstick and aquaphor at night.
Acne status: Still inflamed, a couple tiny places on my left cheek with pus and two new cysts on my chin. The places beside my nose are just as bad if not worse than they were when I started.
Skin status: Some dryness and flaking on my face. Nothing abnormal. Lower legs are ashy and needed lotion.
Current skin routine: Honey mask in the morning followed by CeraVe AM spf 30 facial moisturizer. I'm on vacation in the Outerbanks so I also put Aveeno face sunscreen spf 70 on. Neutrogena Ultimate Sport spf 100 spray for my body. True Blue Spa fragrance free Lay it on Thick shea butter lotion for my body.
At night I'm using Philosophy microdelivery exfoliating wash to get the dead skin away and a salicylic acid gel on the really bad pimples. This might not be a good idea since they say to not use any topical acne medication or microdermabrasion during Accutane. I will probably have to discontinue these soon as my skin gets more dry and sensitive. When this happens, I will switch to some sort of moisturizing cream wash and nighttime lotion. The only reason I haven't yet is because I still wake up with oil on and around my nose.
I'm not using anything for my back breakouts.
I have already purchased and used Aquaphor Healing Ointment Advanced Therapy for my lips. This is supposed to be the absolute best thing for people on Accutane dealing with lip issues.
I wish I would have taken pictures 2 months ago when my acne was at its worst and I first went to the derm. I didn't though and these pics are from this week. As you can see, my acne is still very flared up and I'm most definitely going to have scars. I also included some other pictures from earlier this year to show the sudden change from (mostly) clear skin to cystic acne.
This is me in the Bahamas in mid March of 2012. This is no makeup, you can see a couple tiny places on my left cheek but not a big deal.
This is that same side of my face now, 4 months later. This is the area that has been affected the worst.
You can see the scarring from my original cystic acne outbreak as a teenager before I went on Accutane the first time.
